Woman 76 Dies After Crashing Through A Fourth Floor West Los Angeles Parking Structure Barrier

April 26, 2011 – According to reports, it appears that a defective concrete barrier at LA Sports Club, caused a 76 year old woman to be killed, after crashing through a concrete barrier that was not visibly anchored at the sides to the structure, on the fourth floor, of a West Los Angeles parking structure. According to Cecil Manresa of the Los Angeles Fire Department, stated that the driver crashed through a concrete barrier on the third floor of a West Los Angeles parking structure at approximately 9:20 a.m. The incident occurred at Sepulveda Boulevard and Nebraska Avenue.

The woman identified as being 76 years old, according to the Los Angeles Police Department was pronounced dead at the scene after her vehicle plunged from the third story of the parking structure landing on its roof. Here is a real nice job of not reinforcing the external wall barriers in the structure. If properly constructed, that wall would not have given way. Here, the picture of the LA Sports Club Parking structure, clearly shows that the sides of the barrier were apparently not bolted to the structure. Only the bottom had re-bar. So it fell forward and and slung down like a pickup up truck tailgate. This is an injury lawyers dream lawsuit. The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of her next of kin.
