JRAPublish iKey Requirements

JRAPublish is a Windows 32-bit application that communicates with a USB-Port security token (iKey) called the JRAPublish iKey. This iKey authorizes the JRAPublish application for use. To use the iKey, you must have an available USB port and the iKey must be plugged into it

In order for the JRAPublish application to communicate with the iKey, the iKey driver must be installed.

If you intend to encode files on this PC. You do not need to have the iKey installed if you are merely using JRAPublish on this PC to set up batch jobs and submit them over your network.

Your JRAPublish application license permits you to install the JRAPublish software on an unlimited number of PCs on your network, but only the PC on which the iKey is inserted will be able to run batch jobs.

JRAPublish communicates with the iKey via the iKey driver which is normally installed as part of the JRAPublish application installation. It may also be installed or reinstalled later by using the iKey Installer shortcut in the JRAPublish shortcuts folder.

Known Installation Issues and Workarounds

iKey Driver Installation Issue on Windows Vista

If you installed JRAPublish to Windows Vista, it is likely that the iKey driver failed to install properly. You can resolve this problem by reinstalling the iKey driver using the shortcut provided, and selecting "compatibility mode" when prompted. The iKey driver will then install properly and you can then use JRAPublish. This "compatibility mode" problem will be remedied in the future when we upgrade the iKey driver from version 3.4.7 to version 4.0, with "official" Vista support.

Ghostscript fails to install during JRAPublish installation

You must either install Ghostscript from the JRAPublish Resource CD or have an active internet connection so that the JRAPublish installer can download and install Ghostscript from the internet. If you did not install Ghostscript from the Resource CD and you did not have an active internet connection when installing JRAPublish, then Ghostscript did not install. You can still go back to the JRAPublish Resource CD following JRAPublish installation and install Ghostscript from there, and all will be fine.

JRAPublish Application Skins on Windows NT and Windows Vista

The JRAPublish application allows you change the application "skin" (appearance) from the Help menu. JRAPublish installs with the "Standard" skin which works well on all versions of Windows. You can change the application skin to "Windows", which will then create a skin using the Windows Theme Engine that is consistent with the current theme. This works on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. It does not work with Windows NT, which does not have a Windows Theme Engine, or with Windows Vista, which has a theme engine that is not yet supported by JRAPublish. The obvious workaround on Windows NT and Windows Vista is just to use a skin other than the "Windows" skin.
