Orange County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Wayne Howard said that from Friday night through Monday night there were arrests made using checkpoints and roving patrols. Howard said that the number could go higher, with other law enforcement agencies reporting their arrests.
The multi agency taskforce known as “Avoid the 38, “ including the California Highway Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff’s department was involved in the Memorial Day weekend arrests. According to authorities the number of DUI arrests was 201 and this year the reported number so far is 219.
The California Highway Patrol made 74 driving under the influence arrests, which is an increase over 53 arrests made over last year’s Memorial Day weekend.
