According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated the shift cable might not have been installed properly, which can cause tension on the cable. Then can cause the cable to detach from the shift assembly’s dowel pin. This can result in the transmission being unable to shift and when put into park the car’s transmission can actually be in the last used gear. Here in San Carlos it has been a repair issue in some automobiles overall it seems.
The Optima sedans with this issue can roll when the driver does not put the parking brake on, which can cause a collision or injury to a person in the vehicles path. Kia dealers will inspect the Optima sedans and if the shift cable has not been installed properly they will reinstall it. Kia expects the recall to begin this month.
I guess it will be good for business if you are in a truck or auto repair shop.
