According to Dr. Lance Blackburn of the All Creatures Pet Hospital, the FDA has tested the jerky treats and have not found any contaminants, but pets are getting sick. The FDA has issued a warning, but has not issued a recall, which means they remain on store shelves. The FDA has issued in their warning for signs and symptoms that can affect pets, including:
• Decreased appetite
• Decreased activity
• Increased water consumption
• Increased urination
• Vomiting
The FDA recommends that pets with any of the symptoms be taken to a veterinarian immediately. Animals that are treated early can make a full recovery and owners are asked to report the pet illness from the treats to the FDA immediately.
